BMW M2 G87 2025 Audio Upgrade – One of the First MATCH UP 10DSP MK2 Installations in Australia – Mechatronicar Audio

At MC Audio Sydney, every vehicle is different, and every customer has a unique vision of what great sound should be.

When Mav approached us with his brand-new BMW M2 G87 2025, his initial goal was simple: improve the factory Harman Kardon system with a DSP amplifier upgrade.

Like many BMW enthusiasts, he had spent time researching forums and owner groups where the MATCH DSP platform is often praised as one of the best upgrades available for modern BMWs.

After discussing his goals in detail and demonstrating the performance of our own BMW demonstration vehicles, Mav decided to take the next step and trust us with a more complete sound transformation.

Why the BMW M2 G87 Needs More Than Just a DSP

The factory Harman Kardon system is respectable, but it has two major limitations:

Lack of low-frequency extension and impact
Factory speakers become the bottleneck once additional power and processing are added

The MATCH amplifier platform dramatically improves control, staging, clarity and tuning capabilities, but to fully unlock its potential, higher-quality speakers are essential.

For this project we selected:

These speakers are designed specifically for BMW vehicles and install directly into the factory locations without any modifications to the vehicle.

Maintaining an OEM appearance while delivering premium sound quality is always one of our priorities.

Introducing the New MATCH UP 10DSP MK2 Platform

One of the most exciting aspects of this project was the amplifier choice.

For years we have used:

HELIX V EIGHT DSP

in our BMW builds, including our BMW M2 and BMW M2 Competition demonstration vehicles.

However, for Mav's G87 we decided to implement Audiotec Fischer's newest platform:

MATCH UP 10DSP MK2

10 amplified channels
11-channel DSP processor
Advanced BMW integration
Expanded routing flexibility
Significantly improved processing power

In fact, this hardware is so new that we had to update Audiotec Fischer DSP PC-Tool software to the latest release before configuration could even begin.

We believe this is one of the first BMW M2 G87 installations in Australia using the new MATCH UP 10DSP MK2 platform, making this project particularly exciting for our team.

Day One – Inspection, Planning and Fabrication

Before installing any equipment, we always spend time understanding the vehicle.

The first day was dedicated to:

Acoustic evaluation
Factory system analysis
Vibration inspection
Installation planning
Amplifier mounting design

The BMW M2 is one of our favourite platforms to work on.

The vehicle's engineering quality is exceptional, and from an audio perspective, it provides an excellent foundation for a premium sound system.

After removing the factory speakers, we began fabricating a custom amplifier mounting plate designed specifically for the new DSP platform.

An Unexpected Challenge

Only a week earlier, we had completed a BMW X3 M50 2026 project.

Although both vehicles use BMW's latest architecture and the harness appeared visually identical, BMW had introduced subtle platform changes.

Initially, we expected modifications might be required.

Fortunately, after extensive testing, the Audiotec Fischer harness integrated perfectly with the BMW M2 G87.

No wiring modifications.
No cutting.
No compromises.

DSP Expansion Card Installation

To achieve the level of control we wanted, we installed an extension card on the MATCH UP 10DSP MK2.

This provided additional processing channels and allowed us to properly manage:

Centre channel processing
Signal routing
Output assignments
Digital channel configuration

Each individual speaker output was tested independently to verify:

Signal integrity
Correct polarity
Channel assignment
Phase accuracy

Only after every channel was verified did we begin reassembling the vehicle.

The Art of DSP Tuning

Many customers ask why we spend so much time discussing their musical preferences before tuning.

The answer is simple:

No two listeners are the same.
Tuning a car audio system is similar to tailoring a suit.
What sounds perfect to one person may sound completely wrong to another.

Some people prefer:

Strong bass
Forward vocals
Wide soundstage
Live concert energy

Others want:

Neutral balance
Studio accuracy
Audiophile detail
Relaxed listening

Because of this, understanding the customer is just as important as understanding the equipment.

Using the Audiotec Fischer AMI Tuning Kit

For this project we used our Audiotec Fischer AMI Tuning Kit.

The AMI system has completely transformed the way we tune vehicles. Ironically, it has also made the process more demanding. The more precision we achieve, the higher our standards become.A competition-level tuning profile is not always ideal for daily driving.

Our goal is to create a listening experience tailored specifically to the owner.

Using Mav's previous Volvo audio experience as a reference point and a carefully selected playlist, we began building a completely personalised tuning profile.

Day Two – Fine Tuning and Refinement

The second day was dedicated entirely to tuning.

After a strong morning coffee, we began refining:

Frequency response
Time alignment
Phase relationships
Centre image
Soundstage width
Bass integration

A second tuning profile was also created, allowing future adjustments and flexibility if listening preferences evolve over time.

The Final Result

The transformation exceeded expectations.

One of the biggest weaknesses of the factory Harman Kardon system is its lack of bass authority and overall immersion.

completely transformed the vehicl, vocals became more natural, instruments gained depth and realism, bass became tighter, deeper and more controlled.

Most importantly, the system now feels worthy of the BMW M2 platform.
