When this 2020 Ford Mustang GT arrived at MC Audio Sydney, the owner had one thing in mind: “I want it to sound as powerful on the inside as it does on the outside.”
With a roaring V8 under the bonnet, the Mustang delivers power—but its factory sound system just couldn’t keep up. So we designed a system that would bring clarity, weight, and pure enjoyment back into the cabin.
This wasn’t a simple upgrade. It was a full audio transformation, with expert tuning, component matching, and over 6 layers of premium soundproofing. Every aspect was carefully planned—from speaker positioning and resonance control, to DSP tuning and subwoofer integration.
We wanted this Mustang to be more than loud. We wanted it to be precise, immersive, and worthy of the iconic GT badge.

🎯 The Story Behind the Build
The customer came in frustrated by the flat, weak sound that just didn’t match the power of his GT. He wanted a punchy low end, clear highs, and rich midrange—all tuned to perfection, without compromising the look or layout of the car.
We began with multi-layer soundproofing, starting from the doors and continuing through the rear quarters, boot, and firewall. Using a mix of STP Back Silver, Accent Gold, and Swell Wave foam, we built an acoustic shell to keep noise out and musical detail in.
Each layer had its purpose:
- Back Silver 1.8mm: to block and reduce vibration and low-frequency noise
- Accent Gold 6mm: to eliminate heat and resonant panels
- Wave 7 foam: to absorb reflections and air-borne midrange resonance
Next, we modified the door trims and mounts to install the MUSWAY MG6.3A 3-way speaker set, normally made for Audi/Porsche platforms. With custom spacers, damping rings, and precision alignment, they now sit perfectly within the Mustang’s doors.
Rear fill was handled by MUSWAY ME62 coaxials and AWAVE AWT650s, installed with custom adapters and secured firmly to maintain tonal balance across the cabin.
The real heart of the system? A MATCH UP 10DSP amplifier that powers, controls, and tunes the entire system via DSP. With the HELIX URC.3 controller, the driver can access presets, adjust volume zones, and switch between daily driving or spirited listening modes on the fly.
For bass, we created a custom-mounted HELIX K 10E.2 vented subwoofer enclosure, tuned for both pressure and musicality. Built into the boot, it integrates cleanly with no rattle, no movement, and no compromise on luggage space.
🎛️ System Tuning
Once the hardware was in place, it was time to bring the system to life.
Using the DSP PC-Tool tuning software, our team dialled in:
- 30-band EQ tuning on each output channel
- Time alignment from the driver’s seat
- Phase correction for front stage and sub alignment
- Crossovers and gain matching for seamless transitions
We spent hours listening, measuring with RTA tools, adjusting staging and dynamics until everything felt tight, clean, and emotionally engaging.
The Mustang now delivers a front-row audio experience in a muscle car package.
