When Ben took delivery of his brand-new 2025 Ford Ranger Platinum, he was impressed by its technology, comfort, refinement and capability.
However, one area did not meet his expectations: the factory Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The B&O system provides an enjoyable experience for everyday driving, but Ben wanted something considerably more refined. He noticed limited dynamics, compressed bass, reduced detail and an overly processed sound signature.
His goal was not simply to make the system louder.
He wanted a sound system capable of reproducing music with clarity, realism, authority and accurate imaging while maintaining the Ranger’s factory appearance, controls and everyday usability.

Understanding the Factory B&O System
Modern premium factory sound systems are highly integrated with the vehicle’s electronics.
The original amplifier, speakers, warning sounds, steering wheel controls and vehicle settings all operate as part of a connected network. Because of this, upgrading the audio system requires considerably more planning than simply replacing the factory speakers.
For this project, every original Ford function needed to continue operating exactly as intended.
Our solution needed to provide:
- Complete OEM integration
- Retention of factory controls and warning sounds
- A clean audio signal for the new DSP system
- No unnecessary cutting of the original wiring
- A discreet and serviceable installation

Redesigning the Entire Sound System
Instead of upgrading only one or two components, we redesigned the complete system.
The factory speakers were replaced with premium Focal K2 drivers, selected to operate as part of a fully active, DSP-controlled configuration.
Focal K2 Front Speakers
The front sound stage was upgraded with a Focal K2 component speaker system.
The tweeters and mid-bass drivers were connected to separate amplifier channels, allowing us to control each speaker individually through the DSP.
This gave us precise control over:
- Frequency response
- Crossover points
- Speaker timing
- Output level
- Tonal balance
- Sound-stage positioning
The result is significantly improved vocal clarity, instrument separation and front-stage definition.

Focal K2 Rear Speakers
Focal K2 coaxial speakers were installed in the rear doors.
The rear speakers were tuned to provide subtle cabin support without pulling the sound stage behind the driver.
In a properly calibrated system, the rear channels should add space and ambience while allowing the music to remain clearly focused across the dashboard.

Stage One Subwoofer Upgrade
The original factory subwoofer was removed and replaced with a more capable low-frequency solution.
For Stage One, we installed:
- HELIX IK S10-DVC2 10-inch slim subwoofer
- 300 watts RMS
- Dual 2-ohm voice coils
- Custom Basser enclosure behind the rear seats
The Basser enclosure uses the space behind the rear seats efficiently while preserving the practicality of the Ranger’s cabin.
This location also provides greater enclosure volume than the original factory subwoofer position, allowing the HELIX subwoofer to deliver deeper and more controlled bass.
The objective was not exaggerated bass. The subwoofer was tuned to extend the front speakers naturally while improving depth, authority and impact.

HELIX V EIGHT DSP MK2
At the centre of the system is the HELIX V EIGHT DSP MK2 from Audiotec Fischer.
This premium amplifier and digital signal processor allowed us to control each speaker independently.
The HELIX V EIGHT DSP MK2 was configured to:
- Receive the factory audio signal
- Process each speaker channel independently
- Apply precise crossover settings
- Correct frequency-response problems
- Align speaker arrival times
- Control individual speaker levels
- Integrate the subwoofer with the front stage
- Provide dedicated amplification to the upgraded speakers
A vehicle cabin is a difficult acoustic environment. Every speaker is positioned at a different distance and angle from the driver, while glass, seats, doors and interior panels create reflections and resonance.
The DSP allowed us to compensate for these challenges and create a much more coherent listening experience.

Custom B&O Bypass Wiring Harness
Rather than cutting into the original Ford wiring loom, we designed a custom bypass harness specifically for this installation.
The harness allowed us to integrate the HELIX DSP amplifier with the factory B&O system while maintaining a clean and reversible installation.
This provided:
- Complete factory integration
- Retention of vehicle functions
- A reliable connection to every upgraded speaker
- A clean audio signal path
- Easier servicing and future upgrades
- No unnecessary modification of the original wiring
This approach reflects our OEM+ installation philosophy: the vehicle should perform dramatically better without looking unnecessarily modified.
Upgraded Power Distribution
A system of this level requires a reliable electrical foundation.
New power cabling was installed from the battery to supply the amplifier and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
Every cable was protected, secured and routed using professional automotive installation practices.
Correct power cable sizing, circuit protection and grounding are essential for avoiding voltage drop, noise, amplifier instability and long-term reliability issues.
Comprehensive Sound Deadening
Premium speakers cannot perform correctly when mounted inside flexible or vibrating panels.
For this Ranger, we completed extensive acoustic treatment in the following areas:
- Front doors
- Rear doors
- Door cards
- Rear-seat area
- Speaker mounting locations
The materials used included:
- STP Silver
- STP Gold Accent 10
- STP BiPlast
STP Silver was applied to metal surfaces to reduce vibration and panel resonance.

STP Gold Accent 10 provided additional acoustic absorption and helped reduce road and external noise.
STP BiPlast was used around trims and contact points to reduce rattles, squeaks and vibration between interior panels.
This acoustic treatment delivered:
- Tighter mid-bass
- Reduced panel vibration
- Lower cabin noise
- Cleaner vocals
- Improved speaker efficiency
- Better clarity at higher listening levels
- Fewer rattles and unwanted resonances
Sound deadening does more than make the vehicle quieter. It creates a more stable environment in which the upgraded speakers can perform properly.

Professional DSP Tuning
Once the installation was completed, every speaker was individually measured and calibrated.
The tuning process included:
- Time alignment
- Individual channel equalisation
- Crossover optimisation
- Phase correction
- Speaker level matching
- Subwoofer integration
- Sound-stage positioning
- Final listening tests
Time alignment was used to compensate for the different distances between the speakers and the driver.
Individual equalisation helped correct acoustic problems created by the speaker locations, doors, dashboard and interior surfaces.
The subwoofer was then aligned with the front speakers to create a seamless transition between mid-bass and low bass.
The final objective was a balanced and natural system rather than excessive bass or aggressive high frequencies.
Stage One delivered excellent depth, clear vocals, realistic imaging and significantly greater dynamics than the original B&O system.

Ben Wanted Even More
For most customers, Stage One would have completed the project.
Ben, however, is a genuine audio enthusiast. After living with the system, he returned to MC Audio with one request:
“Let’s make it even better.”
The goal for Stage Two was to increase low-frequency authority and system headroom without sacrificing accuracy or cabin practicality.
Stage Two Dual-Subwoofer Upgrade
A second custom enclosure was designed to fit beneath the rear seats.
The Stage Two components included:
- HELIX IK S10-SVC2 10-inch subwoofer
- HELIX AMPLIFY 201 monoblock amplifier
- Custom under-seat enclosure
- Updated power and signal integration
- Revised DSP calibration
The additional subwoofer increased the system’s available cone area and low-frequency headroom.

More importantly, the dual-subwoofer configuration provided:
- Greater bass authority
- Improved transient response
- Better control at higher volume
- Reduced strain on each subwoofer
- More consistent low-frequency performance
- Stronger integration with the front sound stage
HELIX AMPLIFY 201 Monoblock Amplifier
The Stage Two bass system was powered by a dedicated HELIX AMPLIFY 201 monoblock amplifier.
Using a separate amplifier for the subwoofer section provided greater power reserve and control.
During demanding musical passages, the bass remains fast, deep and controlled rather than becoming loose or distorted.
The improvement is not simply more bass. It is bass with greater authority, accuracy and effortless impact.
The Finished Result
From the outside, very little suggests that this Ranger contains a completely redesigned audio system.
The installation remains clean, discreet and fully integrated.
Inside, however, the listening experience is completely different.
The Focal K2 speakers deliver greater clarity, dynamics and detail.
Vocals are positioned naturally across the dashboard.
Instruments occupy clearly defined locations within the sound stage.
Mid-bass is tighter and more controlled.
The dual HELIX subwoofer system extends considerably deeper than the original B&O configuration while remaining musical and accurate.
Most importantly, the system maintains its composure at every listening level.
Whether Ben is listening quietly during a long drive or enjoying the full dynamic range of a recording, the system provides a refined, powerful and highly engaging experience.
