🔊 Aston Martin DB12 Sound System Upgrade | MC Audio Sydney Case Study
🚗 When Luxury Meets a Missing Piece
At MC Audio Sydney, we recently had the privilege of working on a truly exceptional vehicle: the Aston Martin DB12.
Finished in a stunning green tone, with aggressive wheels, a breathtaking exterior sound, and unmistakable design presence, this car is nothing short of automotive art.
But there was one problem.
👉 The factory sound system was basic.
And for a car of this calibre… that simply wasn’t acceptable.

🎯 The Client's Goal
Ray, the owner, came to us through a previous Aston Martin client we had worked with.
His expectation was clear:
- Maintain the OEM look
- Keep boot space fully usable
- Achieve a high-end, immersive sound experience
Simple in theory.
Extremely complex in reality.

⚠️ The Challenge: No Space for a Subwoofer
During our initial inspection, we identified a major limitation:
❌ No usable space for a subwoofer
❌ Boot installation was not an option (client priority)
❌ No existing aftermarket solutions or adapters available
This meant only one thing:
👉 We had to engineer the solution from scratch

🧠 Engineering Approach: Stage-Based Development
This project was executed in two stages, combining engineering, design, and installation.
🛠️ Stage 1: Reverse Engineering & Acoustic Planning
To begin, we had to fully understand the vehicle’s internal structure:
- Rear seats removed for full access
- 3D scanning of rear cabin and structural surfaces
- Measurement of acoustic volume and resonance zones
- Reverse engineering of mounting points
Because no aftermarket support exists for this platform:
👉 We introduced 3D scanning and 3D printing technology into our workflow.

🧪 Design & Fabrication Process
After capturing all measurements:
- 2 weeks of design iterations and material testing
- Custom subwoofer enclosure designed in multiple sections
- Enclosure split into 4 parts due to printer limitations
- Over 1 week of continuous 3D printing
At the same time:
- Custom speaker adapters were designed and printed
- Front and rear midrange mounts were fabricated from scratch

🔊 System Configuration
The final system was engineered for performance and integration:
- MATCH amplifier with integrated DSP
- HELIX Ci3 front and rear component speakers
- Dedicated midrange and tweeters
- HELIX 10” subwoofer
- Fully custom 3D-printed enclosure
- Custom wiring harness (OEM integration)
- Full professional installation and tuning

🔇 Acoustic Treatment & Rattle Control
To maximise performance:
- Rear cabin received targeted soundproofing treatment
- Critical areas reinforced to reduce vibration and rattling
- Careful balance maintained to preserve:
- The engine sound character
- The emotional driving experience
Because let’s be honest…
👉 You don’t silence an Aston Martin completely.
🎛️ DSP Tuning & Final Calibration
Using the latest Audiotec Fischer DSP platform, we:
- Tuned the system with precision time alignment
- Applied multi-band equalisation
- Optimised staging for both driver and passenger
The result:
🎵 Deep, controlled bass
🎵 Clear midrange and vocals
🎵 Natural high-frequency detail
🎵 A soundstage worthy of the car

⏱️ Project Timeline
- Stage 1 (Engineering & Design): ~2 weeks
- Stage 2 (Installation & Tuning): ~1 week
- Total project duration: ~3 weeks
🎶 The Result
Ray’s feedback said it all.
As someone who listens to:
- Electronic music
- Piano and instrumental tracks
He immediately noticed:
👉 The difference between a standard amplifier and a true DSP-tuned system
And most importantly:
✔️ He kept his full boot space
✔️ The car remained visually OEM
✔️ The driving experience was elevated, not compromised

💬 Final Thoughts
Projects like this push us beyond installation.
They become:
🔬 Engineering challenges
🎯 Precision craftsmanship
🚀 Innovation opportunities
At MC Audio Sydney, this is exactly what drives us forward.
Because every high-end vehicle deserves a sound system that matches its identity.
