Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming this beautiful black classic Ford Mustang Coupe into our MC Audio Sydney workshop for a very special technology upgrade.
With its unmistakable body lines, chrome bumpers, iconic Mustang grille, beautifully preserved black interior and classic wood-rim steering wheel, this American icon immediately caught our attention.
But this project wasn't about changing its appearance, replacing its dashboard or modernising everything inside.
Quite the opposite.
The owner's goal was to protect this classic Mustang with a premium front and rear dash camera system while preserving the character that makes the car special.
Our solution was the BlackVue ELITE 10 2CH, a premium dual-channel dash camera featuring 4K Ultra HD recording from both the front and rear cameras.
The result brings together two generations of automotive engineering, separated by almost six decades.
A Classic Ford Mustang That Deserves Special Attention
Working on a classic vehicle is a completely different experience from upgrading a modern car.
Today's vehicles are designed around electronic modules, integrated wiring systems and modern accessories. A Mustang from the 1960s belongs to an entirely different generation of automotive engineering.

Installing the Front Camera Without Compromising the Classic Interior
One of the most important parts of this installation was selecting the correct position for the front camera.
As shown in our installation photos, the BlackVue ELITE 10 sits discreetly near the original-style rear-view mirror, in the upper section of the windscreen.
This position provides an effective forward-facing recording perspective while keeping the camera relatively unobtrusive from inside the cabin.
The cylindrical BlackVue design works particularly well in this environment.
It doesn't require a large display mounted on the dashboard, an additional screen or changes to the Mustang's classic instrument panel.
And that was exactly the approach we wanted.
The Mustang's dashboard, gauges, steering wheel and vintage atmosphere remain the visual centrepieces of the interior.
The new technology simply complements the vehicle.

Rear Camera Installation: Protection From Both Directions
The second part of the project involved integrating the BlackVue rear camera.
A front-only dash camera records what happens ahead of the vehicle, but it cannot provide the same coverage of events occurring behind it.
For classic vehicle owners, this additional perspective can be particularly valuable.
Rear-end collisions, car park incidents and unexpected situations in traffic can happen regardless of how carefully someone drives.
The rear camera provides an additional recording angle, complementing the front camera and giving the owner more complete coverage.
An important consideration when installing rear cameras in classic coupes is the routing of the connection cable.
Unlike modern vehicles, older cars may have unique trim construction, aged materials and electrical modifications made over many years.
Professional installation requires care when working around these areas to ensure the equipment is securely integrated without unnecessarily disturbing the existing interior.
Our focus throughout this project was to maintain a neat, discreet result consistent with the Mustang's character.
The Challenges of Installing Modern Electronics in a Classic Car
This is where automotive electrical experience makes a real difference.
Installing a premium dash camera in a 1960s vehicle is not necessarily the same process as installing it in a modern Ford Mustang.
Classic vehicles introduce considerations that require careful evaluation.
Understanding the Existing Electrical System
A vehicle that is nearly 60 years old may have undergone previous repairs, restorations or electrical modifications.
Wiring condition, fuse protection, earthing points and available accessory power must be considered before connecting additional electronics.
Unlike a modern vehicle, where many circuits are documented and standardised, classic cars can require a more individual approach.

Older dashboards, window trims and interior panels can be difficult to replace.
