A Classic BMW Meets Modern Sound 🎶
Brian visited us at MC Audio Sydney with his BMW 7 Series E38, one of the most iconic executive sedans of its era. His request was clear:
- Upgrade the sound system for clarity and bass.
- Add a flush-mounted screen with CarPlay/Android Auto.
- Keep the OEM look and elegance intact.
Before starting, we performed subwoofer testing sessions to identify the best low-frequency response for his cabin. Once the plan was finalised, our team committed to a six-day installation process to ensure every detail was perfect.
The Six-Day Installation Process 🛠️
🔹 Day 1 – Vehicle Preparation & Soundproofing
We began by carefully stripping the necessary panels of the E38 and applying STP sound deadening and Focal B.A.M treatment to the doors. This reduced vibrations, improved midbass punch, and set the foundation for a cleaner sound.
🔹 Day 2 – Speaker System Installation
We installed the Helix Ci3 front and rear component kits (5.25" midrange + 1" tweeters). These speakers are engineered for precision and staging, delivering crisp highs and natural vocals.
🔹 Day 3 – Amplifier & DSP Integration
The heart of the upgrade — the Helix M5 DSP amplifier — was mounted and wired. With its built-in DSP, it allowed us to prepare for full digital tuning: EQ, time alignment, and staging adjustments.
🔹 Day 4 – Subwoofer Setup
We installed the Helix K10 SE2 subwoofer, tuned for controlled and powerful low-end response. Its placement was chosen to maximise bass while keeping boot practicality intact.
🔹 Day 5 – Multimedia Upgrade
Next, we integrated the Kenwood DMX 9021S head unit with a custom BMW fascia kit and ADN harness. The result: a flush, factory-looking multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
🔹 Day 6 – DSP Tuning & Final Calibration
Finally, we carried out a Hi-End DSP tuning session. Using 30-band EQ, time alignment, and phase correction, we achieved a soundstage that feels immersive, balanced, and true to a luxury-class BMW.
